Mizen Vision at Mizen Head
There is no doubt that the principal reason that the Mizen Bridge was replaced with a near identical copy is the outstanding success of the Mizen Vision project promoted by the Mizen Tourism Co-operative Society formed by the local community. Mizen Vision was indeed a visionary project for a remote, economically disadvantaged area. When the Commissioners of Irish Lights automated the signal station and handed it over, by means of a lease, to the Mizen Co-op 1 April 1993, this country was still in the depths of a recession that had led to the mass emigration of our young people.
